Middle Aged City Slicker
I have to confess, this one is pretty much the most autobiographical song I’ve written. In getting
other people to record my songs I can understand there is no way any country performer would take
this particular theme on. It’s so against any of their images or brands. I have none of those issues. In
essence, I wrote a song I don’t think anyone else can sing but me.
● V-C1-V-C2-S-V-C3 I enjoy the concept of a chorus that changes every-time around. Still
seems pretty cohesive.

Lyrics

Middle Aged City Slicker Matt Beatty

I’m not a cowboy! I can barely ride a horse.
Got too much city in me, To force a change in course.

But I pine for a simple life, With gravel roads beneath my feet.
Drinking beer on the front porch, To beat the harvest heat.

Listenin to country music. Try to write my songs the same.
But I'm a middle aged city slicker,
Tryin to play an old cowboys game.

I love the smell of canola fields, As they bake in the summer sun.
But allergies and sunscreen, Got me runnin fore the day is done.

Never worked an honest day, That idea makes me tired.
I could never wake up early. A hand hired and quickly fired.

I wear the boots and the buckles, trying to look the same.
But I'm a middle aged city slicker,
Tryin to play an old cowboys game.

(SOLO)

I can't sleep on a dirt bed, And stare up at the country stars.
The city lights wash them all away. With all its cars and fancy bars.

But I don't mind the driving. Love playing music in a small saloon.
On the stage is as close as I'll get.Soon I'm heading home by the moon.

Glad my friends let me hang out, without feelin too much shame,
That I'm a middle aged city slicker
And it's an old cowboys game

A middle aged city slicker
Playin an old cowboys game
